Clonmel Yang Style Tai Chi Club (YMAA)
Hello
On Saturday AM the 2nd September we hold our Annual start of year workshop which is open to everyone, beginners, those with a little experience, those who have been practicing for several years, and to those perhaps who are just plain curious and would like to do a term or a year to find out for (something about) themselves.
We invite friends who are practicing for some time to come along and focus on their Goals & hopes for the forthcoming year. Sometimes when you practice for a while it is easy to lose sight of the progress you have made, and you need to give a little time to look positively and what you have done so far, and to plan in a positive way for what you will do next. We would also invite our ‘regulars’ to meet with any new visitors that day & encourage them by sharing their Tai Chi experiences.
For those that are practicing a few years I am attaching a timely article from Dr Yang published end July 2011, which it may be helpful to read and discuss. Dr Yang and several of his senior students (senior students) frequently publish very short articles at ymaa.com which can be very helpful.
YMAA is dedicated to returning Tai Chi and other linked martial arts & disciplines to their roots, and to disseminating as much information as possible about these arts worldwide, through their publications and 60+ Schools and teachers worldwide.
Even though you my never practice Tai Chi for it’s martial purposes, you will be given a basic understanding of it’s roots, as you work towards your own goal of maintaining a healthy body and a youthful mind with the knowledge and techniques of Tai Chi (Taijiquan).
The Workshop format has something for everyone, especially beginners but it is also those :
- who might be coming back to practice, or
- those wishing to stretch their Tai Chi boundaries,
- or people who may be looking to address some specific problem or issue for themselves personally.
There is a short workshop presentation (about 40 minutes), in which the 5 Regulations of Tai Chi are discussed ( Body, Breath, Mind, Qi (life energy) and Spirit).
There are also a couple of DVD presentations showing Dr Yang and his daughter Kate showing you some basic Tai Chi Long Form practice, and other DVD materials.
There will then be a demonstration, followed by a chance to practice :
- some basic daily techniques, for joint loosening and stretching,
- one Qi Gong Set for relaxation ;
- And then later you will have a chance to have a go at some long form Tai Chi yourself, and to have a chat with and ask questions of some of the regular students.
It is all very relaxed and informal, and later in the morning you get a chance to discuss the autumn class programme, and what’s in it for you.
YMAA Tai Chi Clonmel is a community based Tai Chi Club which frequently brings other experienced teachers to Clonmel and offers a regular systemic programme of training to people in the region. People have travelled from as far as Kilkenny, West Waterford and east Cork area to avail of these classes. We endeavour to make as affordable and accessible as possible for people.
As a Club our goal is to have up to 30 people in regular training and otherwise to help as many people as possible to understand and develop their own tai chi art for their own personal use and benefit.
Why not come and join us for the morning and see for yourself ?
All you need is :
- a set of warm loose clothing, water, & soft flat shoes,
- preferably a notebook and pen but we will provide a folder with some free materials, including a free sample DVD,
- And finally you will need €10 for registration & attendance for the morning.
We hope to see you there, and in order to attend all you have to do is text (only please) to:
Either Fred at : 086 – 255 0845
Or Brian at : 087 - 741 6336
You can also email : fred at : taichi.clonmel@gmail.com
Or brian at : brian.mcdonald@oceanfree.net
Eligibilty: Age: All ages are eligible. There is no such thing as being too old, but young people under 18 years must be accompanied by a parent or supervising adult.
Health:
If you have some medical issue and you have not trained before, we can say that the opening workshop will not be too strenuous, but it might be wise to ask you doctor beforehand and to tell one of the instructors on the morning before you decide to participate. Doctors and physio’s are regularly recommending these classes to their patients, but of course you do need to tell us in strictest confidence if you have some particular concern and the instructor will discuss it with you.
